OS Grid References http://www.heritageforum.co.uk/talk/discussion/115/os-grid-references Sun, 22 Jan 2012 07:14:57 -0500 keithwheeler 115@/talk/discussions
I have just seen Maddys comment (19th Jan 12) on the Ancient Monuments website regarding Caerau Camp and its grid ref being incorrect. I have noticed exactly the same problem on other locations on both the Ancient Monuments & Listed Buildings websites. It seems a lot of Welsh locations have all been prefixed SJ with only part of the numbers being correct (SJ would be around Wrexham). The all number grid references seem OK. As I understand these are due to external sources so I assume if I find an error like this the only way to correct it is by entering it in the comments box of the building/monument it relates to.

Forgive me if I am talking to the converted, but if the prefix letters on OS grid refs is a mystery, it relates to 100km square "boxes" across the whole UK starting at The Scilly Isles. Similarly the all numerical referencess relate to the same "boxes" starting with 0..... 0..... at the Scillies. The Ordnance Survey website includes a simple diagram of how
it works. ]]>
Odd encounters while photographing listed buildings http://www.heritageforum.co.uk/talk/discussion/66/odd-encounters-while-photographing-listed-buildings Wed, 06 Jul 2011 13:09:31 -0400 historyjunky 66@/talk/discussions In Bridgnorth I was again asked by someone standing outside a pub what I was doing, I said "minding my own xxxxxxx business" he turned to the pub and shouted through an open window at a crowd who had gathered "He's minding his own xxxxxxx business!". He he, all good fun.
So has anyone else got any close encounters worth telling?]]>
