Odd encounters while photographing listed buildings
  • So far I've been thrown off a private estate by Lord Forrester for photographing a church (there's a whole thread on that one) and while taking photos in Tewkesbury I was berated by a chap standing outside a pub who firstly accused me of being from the council and therefore up to no good and when I told him I wasn't he demanded to know why someone wearing a suit was taking photos of buildings on the high street!! I said that was my business not his.
In Bridgnorth I was again asked by someone standing outside a pub what I was doing, I said "minding my own xxxxxxx business" he turned to the pub and shouted through an open window at a crowd who had gathered "He's minding his own xxxxxxx business!". He he, all good fun.
So has anyone else got any close encounters worth telling?

Not so much a confrontation more how did I keep a straight face! Having worked as a photographer for years I recall setting up a plate camera (yes, way back before digital was even thought of!) in a conservation area for some publicity shots. I was under a traditional black cloth over the viewing screen and became aware of feet beside me and a voice saying "Oi, do you take photographs cos I need a passport photo now!".
I couldn't resist saying "No, this is a tape recorder" , imagine my amazement when I was actually believed and left in peace!
